What is Greener Image?

Greener Image is a new charitable fund enabling those who profit from images of nature to nurture it for the future.

Greener Image has been set up by award-winning photographer and picture agency owner Carol Sharp. "We use plants to help sell things. But what are we giving back to our models, the plants who pose for free?"

"Initially we'd like to involve any photographer who use nature as their subject," she explained. "So far all 70 photographers from my agency, Flowerphotos, have signed up, and we're talking to other agencies and photographers about getting involved".

How Does Greener Image Work?

"We're asking photographers to give a very small percentage of their image sales to the fund, and agencies representing them to match the amount given. The donations will go to local environmental initiatives involved with education, conservation and awareness, that don't have much public exposure".

Who Will Benefit From Greener Image?

The fund's first recipient will be community gardens - and contributing photographers are being invited to nominate their local, or favourite, community garden. "In my work I try to connect people and plants," said Carol, "and supporting community gardens is a perfect way to benefit both."

How Can I Get Involved With Greener Image?

Contributing photographers are being asked to send in an image of their nominated garden, and the results will be displayed on the Greener Image website. The winner will be chosen through a vote of the photographers themselves.
